Rabab Al-Medhwahi

Rabab Al-Medhwahi is a Yemeni human rights activist and former head of the information department at the National Democratic Institute in Sana’a. In June 2024, she was abducted by Houthi forces in a large-scale campaign targeting UN and international organization employees on fabricated espionage charges. Her detention was widely condemned by human rights organizations. On 22 February 2025, Rabab Al-Medhwahi was temporarily released to attend her mother’s funeral in Amman, Jordan. Rabab Al-Medhwahi’s case highlights the ongoing repression of human rights defenders in Yemen and the use of arbitrary detention to silence dissent.
