Raed Fares
Raed Fares was a Syrian citizen-journalist, activist, and civil society leader from Kafr Nabl who founded the community-based Kafranbel Media Centre and the independent radio station Radio Fresh FM in 2013. On 23 November 2018, Fares and fellow media activist and photographer Hamoud Jneed were shot dead by unknown assailants wielding machine guns in a rebel-held area near Idlib. The murder was widely believed to have been orchestrated, as the attackers waited in a van outside their shared office and followed them before opening fire on their car while they attempted to flee.
