Saadoun Hammad

Saadoun Hammad is a former Kuwaiti Member of Parliament who was sentenced on 31 July 2024 to two years in prison with hard labour after being convicted of vote-buying during the 2024 National Assembly elections in the Third Constituency. He was accused of mediating to purchase electoral votes in his favour. During the trial, Hammad and his campaign workers denied the charges and on 23 September 2024, the Court of Appeals upheld the sentence and refused to suspend it . On 7 October 2024, Hammad surrendered to the Court of Appeal to serve his sentence, however, on 20 April 2025, the Court of Cassation overturned his acquittal and refrained from issuing any sentence against him on charges of buying votes during the 2024 elections; the court’s decision was final and could not be challenged.
