Salah Al-Wasai is a writer from Yemen. He was forced to leave the country on 11 November 2024, together with his wife, journalist Hiba Al-Kutbi, after a widely-circulated photograph he posted on Facebook triggered a wave of death threats, incitement and defamation campaigns (some originating even from members within his extended circle, including relatives of Al-Kutbi) forcing them to flee their home in Taiz, hide in rural areas, travel clandestinely to Aden, and ultimately seek safety outside the country. This targeting caused both material and psychological harm and led to the loss of their jobs in what appears to have been a coordinated campaign to silence independent media voices and activism.
