Sami Al-Kalabi is a Yemeni employee at the Office of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen. He was abducted on the morning of 06 June 2024 when masked gunmen stormed his home, searched it for three hours and confiscated his personal belongings. His arrest formed part of a wave of detentions targeting several staff members of UN agencies and NGOs in Yemen. He has since been held at an undisclosed location and his health has seriously deteriorated. Al-Kalabi developed trigeminal neuralgia, a condition he did not have before his arrest, and the lack of adequate medical treatment is likely worsening his suffering. On 01 August 2025, his wife Huda Al-Raadi posted on Facebook: “Is what we are asking for too much? Our only demand is justice… only that those who were unjustly kidnapped from us be returned to us.”
