Sara Jassim Mohammed is a woman human rights defender from Iraq. Since the start of the popular movement on 1 October 2019, she has received continuous and repeated threats to kill or disfigure her with burning liquids, in order to prevent her from continuing her peaceful and legitimate work in the field of human rights. In particular, she has been threatened for standing up for women who face electronic blackmail, domestic violence, and harassment, as part of the campaigns she organises to defend women’s rights.
She is among four founders of the Volunteer Climate Prospect Team, a civil society organisation that sparked from the successful Climate Prospects Campaign in 2024, which fought for a national strategy on climate change and the protection of climate activists’ right to freedom of expression.
