Serag Al-Shadefat is a young Jordanian internet activist who uses his account on X to support popular protests and demand the release of detained protesters. He and his brother Ibrahim Al-Shadefat were arrested on 26 March 2024 by plainclothes security officers while the two were on their way to participate in a protest in solidarity with Gaza. After refusing to relinquish their phones’ data to the authorities, they were held in detention. They were kept in detention after they refused to sign pledges stating that they would not organise or participate in future protests. On 16 April 2024, they were released.
