Shadli Ahmed Mahmoud Al-Huwaiti
Shadli Ahmed Mahmoud Al-Huwaiti is a Saudi citizen from the Al-Huwaitat tribe, known for his opposition to the displacement of his community due to the Neom megacity project. He was arrested on 14 November 2020 during a raid on his family farm. His arrest was part of a broader crackdown on members of the Al-Huwaitat tribe who resisted forced evictions for the project. On 5 August 2022, he was sentenced to death by the Specialised Criminal Court. The court quoted charges of “terrorism” and “inciting sedition” based on his peaceful opposition. On 23 January 2023, the Court of Appeal upheld his death sentence, along with those of Ibrahim and Ataullah Al-Huwaiti.
