Shahla Ali
Shahla Ali is a civil society activist and teacher based in Sulaymaniyah, Iraqi Kurdistan, who is affiliated with the Kurdistan National Stance Movement (Helwesti). On 24 June 2025, Ali was arrested by security forces in civilian clothing during a protest by teachers and employees outside Helwesti’s office in Sulaymaniyah, demanding the payment of overdue salaries and opposing corruption and mismanagement. The arrest occurred without a judicial warrant and involved the use of violence. Ali was among several individuals detained that day, including Munira Abdullah, Noor Farqi, and Dilsuz Zankanah.
