Sharifeh Mohammadi
Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labour and women’s rights defender, is currently on death row. Arrested on 05 December 2023 in Rasht, she was subjected to torture, forced confessions, solitary confinement, and denied access to legal counsel and her family, notably her 12 years old child.
On 04 July 2024, Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Rasht sentenced her to death on charges of “baghi” (armed rebellion), citing her decade-old affiliation with the “Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organizations” as grounds for the accusations.
In October 2024, the Supreme Court overturned this ruling due to “flaws and ambiguities” and ordered a retrial. A retrial occurred in February 2025 before Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court (headed by the original judge’s son), which reissued the death sentence without correcting any of the prior procedural defects. On 16 August 2025, Branch 39 of the Supreme Court confirmed this death sentence, despite none of the earlier legal concerns having been addressed, making the sentence final and placing her at imminent risk of execution.
