Sheikh Mohammed Habib Al-Muqdad

Sheikh Mohamed Habib Al-Muqdad is a dual Swedish-Bahraini national, a religious figure and social activist, who has played a significant role in Bahrain’s human rights movement. He was arbitrarily and violently arrested in 2011 during the pro-democracy protests, forcibly disappeared, and subjected to severe physical, sexual and psychological torture. Sheikh Mohamed Habib Al-Muqdad was sentenced to life imprisonment following an unfair military trial. He remains detained under harsh conditions and continues to suffer the long-term consequences of the abuse he endured in custody.
