Sheikh Salman Al-Aodah was arrested on 10 September 2017 by Saudi authorities for a tweet he published on X (formerly Twitter) in which he called on God to unite the hearts of the rulers of the region for the good of its people. According to a tweet posted on 10 September 2023 by his son, human rights defender Abdullah Al-Aodah, his trial had been put on hold for years, with the death penalty suggested as punishment.
