Sipan Salim Hassan Amidi is a political activist serving as a member of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament for the New Movement bloc (Gorran) and journalist from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He was assaulted and kidnapped on 29 June 2025 after leaving a meeting in Duhok. Security forces affiliated with the Kurdistan Democratic Party subjected Amidi to forcible disappearance following his public criticism of corruption and deteriorating living conditions under the Kurdistan Regional Government. Amidi has around thirteen years of journalistic experience and is a member of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate. Although he was released, the incident reflects escalating suppression of political dissent.
