Tal Al-Mallouhi
Tal Al-Mallouhi is a Syrian blogger from Homs, detained on 27 December 2009 by security forces following a summons by State Security branch 279 in Damascus. Her computer, CDs, books, and other personal items were confiscated two days later, and she was held incommunicado with no access by her family for nearly nine months. On 14 February 2011, a State Security court in Damascus convicted her of “divulging information to a foreign state” and sentenced her to five years in prison. Her writings (comprising poetry and social commentary, especially on Palestine) were widely believed to be the only basis for her targeting. As of late 2023 she remained imprisoned, until she was reportedly freed in December 2024 during the fall of the Assad regime, after fifteen years in detention.
