Turki Al-Jasser
Turki bin Abdulaziz Al‑Jasser was a Saudi journalist and blogger who authored the newspaper Al‑Taqrir and a personal blog between 2013 and 2015 addressing issues including women’s rights, the Arab Spring, corruption and Palestine, and he was allegedly the operator of the anonymous Twitter account “Kashkol” through which he publicly criticised the Saudi leadership. He was arrested on 15 March 2018 when security forces raided his home in Riyadh, confiscated all devices and took him to an undisclosed location, and he was held in enforced disappearance in Al‑Ha’ir Prison with no contact except brief calls to his family in early 2020 and again in early 2021. Following seven years of detention, during which credible sources reported that he endured torture and harsh conditions, Al‑Jasser was executed on 14 June 2025 after being convicted of high treason, communicating with hostile parties and financing terrorism based on charges that rights groups characterise as politically motivated and lacking due process.
