Wafaa Al-Matari is a Yemeni journalist. On 27 October 2023, she engaged in a sit-in in the city of Taiz to demand her rights be respected, as she was owed job benefits that authorities refused to pay. After her sit-in, she was arrested. She was detained for 11 days before being released on bail, and threatened with reimprisonment if she resumed her protest. Her phone was confiscated and wiped of all data. Local reports confirmed that she may be subjected to a trial as a result of her use of social media to speak about her case and peacefully demand her rights.
