Walid Ali Ghaleb

Walid Ali Ghaleb is the Deputy Head of the Journalists Syndicate branch in Hudaidah, Yemen. He was arbitrarily arrested between 21 and 22 May 2025 as part of a broader sweep by the Security and Intelligence Service targeting journalists and media professionals in Hudaidah, and has been held without formal charges since then. Local journalists and media freedom advocates condemned the arrests, including those of photographer Abdul Jabbar Ali Ziyad and correspondent Hassan Ziyad, and described them as an “arbitrary campaign” aimed at stifling independent journalism in the region. The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate publicly denounced the sweep on 25 May 2025, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all detainees and underscoring the deteriorating climate for press freedom in areas under de facto control.
