Yaqoub Al-Khorousi

Yaqoub Al-Kharousi is an Omani human rights defender and a co-founder of the Omani Team for Human Rights. He has been actively involved in defending civil liberties, promoting the rights of workers, and advocating for accountability and transparency in Oman.  Al-Kharousi, along with fellow human rights defenders Habiba Al-Hanaei and Ismail Al-Mikbali, was kidnapped while returning from the oil fields following the strike of oil workers in May 2012. His detention was part of a broader crackdown that escalated after a statement issued by the public prosecutor on 4 June 2012, which threatened legal action against activists continuing to exercise their rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and to call for reforms. Al-Kharousi was imprisoned following court decisions in late 2012.
