On the evening of 21 January, more than 20 members of the Omani security forces raided the home of prominent human rights defender Saed Jadad in Salalah city and arrested him without presenting any judicial warrant. Reports confirm that he was taken to an unknown location and he was not allowed to take his medications with him.
The Gulf Centre for Human Rights (GCHR) condemns the arrest of Saed Jadad which it believes is solely related to his legitimate and peaceful human rights activities.
The GCHR calls on the Omani government to:
- Ensure the release of human rights defender Saed Jadad immediately and unconditionally;
- Grant Saed Jadad immediate and unfettered access to his family and lawyer;
- Guarantee the physical and psychological integrity and security of Saed Jadad;
- Guarantee in all circumstances that all human rights defenders in Oman are able to carry out their legitimate human rights activities without fear of reprisals and free from all restrictions including judicial harassment.
