United Arab Emirates: Rights defender Alaa Mohammed Al-Siddiq remembered at a condolences and memorial session

On 02 July 2021, a condolences and memorial session was held in memory of courageous woman human rights defender Alaa Mohammed Al-Siddiq from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was organised by ALQST for Human Rights, the Gulf Centre for Human Rights (GCHR) and Wejha Centre for Studies in cooperation with the office of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights Defenders.
Representative of Al-Siddiq’s family in UK and 11 other speakers including UN Special Rapporteur Mary Lawlor all talked about her achievements and unique character as a defender of rights, poet and writer. Her sister Duaa Mohammed Al-Siddiq thanked all the speakers for their kind words and condolences and said, "The loss is big and great. Alaa gave what she could so that her quest would be seen."
