Abdullah Mohammed Jbara
Abdullah Mohammed Jbara, a Jordanian expatriate, participated on 20 June 2021 in a peaceful sit-in at Al-Erada Square in Kuwait, organised by Kuwaiti citizens to oppose cabinet orders. During the protest, Jbara appeared in a video clip speaking to journalists about restrictions imposed on citizens based on their access to vaccinations. He stated that the issue was not about disease or death, but about a way of life, questioning how a free person could agree to restrictions on personal freedoms, which he described as a “very strange distinction.”
On 04 July 2021, Jbara was deported to Jordan following an order from the Kuwaiti Minister of Interior, who had declared that any expatriate resident engaging in behaviour deemed harmful to the public interest, public security or public morals would be deported. The decision triggered widespread criticism in Kuwait, where the hashtag #No_to_Abdullah_Deportation trended on Twitter, with many citizens, including members of the National Assembly, urging the government to revoke the order.
