Ali Shoeib
Ali Shoeib is a Lebanese journalist and long-time war correspondent for Al-Manar TV who was killed on 28 March 2026 in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon while covering ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in a context of escalating violence and increasing risks for media workers reporting from frontline areas. Ali Shoeib was a well-known figure in Lebanese media, having reported from southern Lebanon for nearly three decades, during which he documented military developments and the impact of conflict on local populations, often working in close proximity to active hostilities. On 28 March 2026, while travelling in a clearly identifiable media vehicle on the Jezzine highway alongside journalist Fatima Ftouni and cameraman Mohammed Ftouni, Ali Shoeib was killed when an Israeli strike directly targeted their car, resulting in the deaths of all three media workers. Reports indicate that the vehicle was marked as press and that the journalists had been actively covering the conflict at the time of the attack, raising serious concerns regarding the protection of journalists under international humanitarian law. The Israeli military stated that Ali Shoeib had been specifically targeted, alleging without publicly providing evidence that he was acting as a Hezbollah intelligence operative, a claim that has been disputed or not independently verified by press freedom organisations. The killing prompted strong condemnation from Lebanese authorities and international organisations, including the Committee to Protect Journalists, which highlighted that the strike on a media vehicle may constitute a deliberate attack on journalists and called for an independent investigation.
