Dr Salih Al-Azri

Dr. Salih Al-Azri is an Omani human rights defender and  a doctor working for the Ministry of Health who has been actively engaged in advocating for transparency and reform, particularly within the health sector in Oman.

While working for the Ministry of Health, he has used social media platforms, including Facebook, to denounce corruption in the healthcare system and to defend the rights of detained human rights activists. His activism has repeatedly brought him into conflict with Oman’s Internal Security Service (ISS). In April 2013, he was arrested and detained for several days for his public criticisms, and in August 2015, he was arbitrarily arrested along with other human rights defenders for his peaceful and legitimate human rights activities, including his online advocacy. Dr. Al-Azri was held incommunicado at the Special Division of the Omani Police in Muscat but was later released without any formal charges. His repeated arrests and ongoing activism highlight both his commitment to human rights and the systematic targeting of activists in Oman.
