Fawzan Al-Harbi

Fawzan Mohsen Awad Al-Harbi is a Saudi human rights defender and co-founder of the Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association. On the 26th December 2013, Fawzan Al-Harbi was arrested following his second hearing before the Specialised Criminal Court in Riyadh. He was charged with co-founding an unlicensed organisation, ignoring judicial decisions ordering its dissolution, and other offences related to his human rights activities. In June 2014, Fawzan Al-Harbi was sentenced to one year in prison and a six-year suspended sentence. However, in November 2014, the Court of Appeal increased his sentence to ten years in prison followed by a ten-year travel ban. During his detention, Fawzan Al-Harbi faced numerous violations, including the arrest of his wife, Amal Al-Harbi, while she was with their children on the Jeddah Corniche. As of the end of December 2023, Fawzan Al-Harbi had completed his sentence, yet the Saudi authorities had not released him. Human rights organisations have called for his immediate and unconditional release.
