Ghada Dayekh

Ghada Dayekh is a Lebanese radio presenter and journalist who worked for the privately owned Sawt Al-Farah station in the southern city of Tyre and was killed on 08 April 2026 when an Israeli airstrike struck her residential building in a context of intensified hostilities and a growing pattern of attacks affecting media workers in Lebanon. Dayekh had been a prominent and long-standing voice in local broadcasting, having worked with Sawt Al-Farah since its establishment in the 1980s and remaining on air for approximately 37 years, during which she became widely recognised for her coverage of social, cultural and humanitarian issues affecting her community. Following the destruction of the station’s headquarters in early March 2026 amid escalating conflict, Ghada Dayekh had continued her journalistic activities from her home. On 08 April 2026, an Israeli strike directly hit her apartment building in Tyre, completely destroying it and killing Ghada Dayekh instantly while she was inside, with no indication that the location constituted a military target. Her killing occurred on the same day as other deadly strikes against journalists in Lebanon and Gaza, highlighting a sharp escalation in the risks faced by media professionals in the region. International organisations including the Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the attack, emphasising that the killing of Ghada Dayekh in her home represents a serious violation of the obligation under international humanitarian law to protect civilians and journalists, and pointing to a broader pattern in which media workers appear to be increasingly exposed to lethal force.
