Hogir Mihemed
Hogir Mihemed, a Kurdish journalist and media activist, was a human rights defender who was wounded on 12 October 2017 in a car bombing in Abu Fas, eastern Syria. He was covering civilian displacement when Islamic State-affiliated suicide bombers targeted a gathering of civilians, two car bombs exploded, killing at least fifteen civilians and severely injuring reporters including Hogir Mihemed and his colleagues Dilshan Ibash and Hawker Faisal Mohammed. The attack occurred along the road linking Al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor. While Dilshan Ibash died at the scene and Hawker Faisal Mohammed succumbed to his injuries later, Hogir Mihemed was hospitalised in critical condition and subsequently died at Hesekê Hospital on 15 October 2017 from his wounds.
