Hussain Hamood

Hussain Hamood was a Lebanese photojournalist and camera operator for Al-Manar TV who was killed on 25 March 2026 while filming a military operation in Nabatieh in southern Lebanon in the context of escalating cross-border hostilities and increasing risks faced by journalists covering active combat zones. Hamood was engaged in frontline visual reporting, documenting military developments in real time as part of his professional duties with Al-Manar TV, a role that placed him directly in proximity to ongoing military activity in a highly volatile environment. On 25 March 2026, while filming a military operation in Nabatieh, Hamood was killed by an Israeli strike during active hostilities, with reports indicating that he was clearly identifiable as a media worker at the time of the attack. His death occurred in the field while he was carrying out journalistic coverage, highlighting the extreme dangers faced by camera operators and photojournalists embedded in or operating near military activity. The killing of Hussain Hamood was condemned by UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany, who stressed the obligation to protect journalists under international humanitarian law and called for accountability and clarification regarding the circumstances of the strike.
