Mansoor Al-Muhareb

Mansoor Al-Muhareb is a Kuwaiti blogger and online activist known for his criticism of government policies. On 27 October 2024, the Kuwaiti Criminal Court sentenced him in absentia to two years in prison with hard labour, classifying the case as a state security matter. He was convicted for allegedly challenging the authority of the Emir, following his public condemnation of the May 2024 dissolution of the National Assembly, which he described as unconstitutional. Now residing in the United Kingdom, Al-Muhareb regularly uses his X account to share critical perspectives on political developments of civil society in Kuwait. In response to his sentencing, he questioned the legal basis for suspending constitutional articles without a declared state of emergency. GCHR has called for the verdict to be overturned, all charges to be dropped, and for UK authorities to provide Al-Muhareb with full protection and political asylum.
