Rizgar Deniz was a Kurdish journalist and field reporter. He was seriously wounded in a car-bombing attack perpetrated by two Islamic State suicide bombers on 12 October 2017 in the eastern Syrian village of Abu Fas, where he was covering civilian displacement for the Hawar News Agency. While two fellow journalists (Dilîşan Îbiş (killed instantly) and Hogir Mihemed (who died of head injuries the following day) lost their lives in the attack, Deniz survived but sustained severe injuries. He later succumbed to his wounds on 18 December 2017 while receiving treatment in a hospital in Qamishlo, and was laid to rest in Makhmur on 25 December 2017.
