Taha Saleh

Taha Saleh is a Yemeni freelance photojournalist who has been targeted for his work documenting human rights violations in Taiz, particularly the massacre committed against the Al-Harq family in the Amad area of the Bir Basha neighbourhood on 10 August 2021, during which several members of the family were killed or kidnapped after armed clashes involving military units loyal to President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi. On 17 August 2021, Saleh wrote on his Facebook page “I didn’t kill anyone, I didn’t rob anyone, to send a group of masked soldiers over at midnight to surround the house”, after armed units of the Military Intelligence Directorate raided the house where he and fellow photojournalist Naeef El-Wafi were staying in Taiz. Saleh happened to be outside at the moment of the raid, while El-Wafi escaped and took shelter elsewhere. Their targeting followed their coverage of the Al-Harq massacre and El-Wafi publicly confirmed that Hadi-affiliated military elements were responsible for the killings. On 16 August 2021, Saleh had also condemned the authorities failure to hold the perpetrators accountable, stating that the accusations against them stemmed from their demands for justice for the victims’ families.
