Tawfiq Mohammed Al-Mansouri
Tawfiq Mohammed Al-Mansouri is a Yemeni journalist and graphic designer for Al-Masdar newspaper who was abducted by Houthi forces in 2015 and subjected to enforced disappearance, torture and incommunicado detention. On 11 April 2020, he was sentenced to death by the Specialised Criminal Court in Sana’a following an unfair trial. Despite filing an appeal on 22 April 2020, he was not brought back to court, in violation of the Specialised Criminal Court of Appeal’s verdict of 06 November 2022. Since October 2020, Al-Mansouri has been held in the Exchange House prison, designated for prisoners to be exchanged, where he has been denied contact with his family and legal counsel, amounting to an enforced disappearance. His health has severely deteriorated due to the denial of life-saving medical treatment by the Houthi authorities, leading to critical conditions and prompting international human rights organisations to call for his immediate release. He was finally released on 16 April 2023 as part of a prisoner exchange deal.
