Younis Abdulsalam Ahmed Abdulrahman

Younis Abdulsalam Ahmed Abdulrahman is an independent Yemeni journalist originally from Taiz and residing in Sanaa, who was arrested on 04 August 2021 by the Houthi authorities. Initially held in an unofficial underground cell near Sanaa airport, Younis Abdulsalam was later transferred to a detention centre operated by the Security and Intelligence Services. He was subjected to enforced disappearance for several weeks, kept in solitary confinement for 80 days, and held incommunicado for at least three months. He was never charged or brought before a judge, and his lawyer was not allowed to meet him. According to his brother, Younis Abdulsalam was arrested for peacefully expressing his opposition to the authorities. His mental health deteriorated due to the harsh conditions of his detention, and despite medical reports indicating the need for continuous treatment, he was denied appropriate healthcare. After more than a year of arbitrary detention, Younis Abdulsalam was released by the Houthi authorities on 07 December 2022
