16 Days Campaign

1/12/2022

The Global 16 Days Campaign, launched by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) and feminists from around the world at the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991, has been used worldwide to call for the elimination of gender-based violence (GBV). It is run annually from November 25 (International Day Against Violence Against Women) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day). In 2022, the Campaign is continuing its multi-year theme of Ending Femicide. To learn more, view the Femicide Advocacy Guide to learn more and sign the petition to declare December 6 the International Day to End Femicide. The campaign is also working closely with other CWGL initiatives to build on the previous multi-year theme on ending GBV in the world of work.

The 2019 Campaign conducted advocacy on the ratification of ILO Convention 190 and ending GBV in the public and private spheres of work by implementing suggestions from the accompanying ILO Recommendation 206. In 2020, the Campaign increased its efforts to amplify the voices of women workers in the informal economy while continuing to call for the ratification of ILO Convention 190. In 2021, the Campaign focused on Domestic Violence in the world of work. Learn more about our work by visiting the #RatifyILO190 tab. CWGL will continue to advocate for C190.

2021 Femicide Advocacy Guide [PDF] – The Guide aims to promote collective action to increase the visibility of femicide as an urgent global crisis and to emphasize the duties of governments and other key actors to end it.
