Majid bin Abdullah Al-Ruhaili

Majid bin Abdullah Al-Ruhaili is an Omani human rights lawyer and online activist who was abducted on 11 December 2022 by the Internal Security Service  while at a gym in Muscat. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Ruhaili is known for openly expressing his opinions on public affairs and for advocating comprehensive reforms, asserting that people are the source of all authority. Credible local sources reported that his kidnapping was directly linked to a series of tweets in which he expressed his views candidly. Following his abduction, Majid bin Abdullah Al-Ruhaili was held incommunicado at a Special Division prison operated by the Omani Police in Muscat. He was released on 04 January 2023.

On 08 February 2026 in the evening, plainclothes officers from the Special Division of the Omani police in Muscat arrested Al-Ruhaili in front of his home and took him to an undisclosed location.

On 29 March 2026, Al-Ruhaili was released after seven weeks of arbitrary detention. His family was prevented from visiting him in prison, and he was not allowed to contact a lawyer. Informed local sources confirmed that he spent 45 days of his detention in solitary confinement. Authorities charged him with publishing material that could incite public opinion and undermine the prestige of the state. His trial is scheduled to begin on 05 April 2026.
