Mohammad Sherri

Mohammad Sherri is a Lebanese journalist and head of political programming at Al-Manar TV who was killed on 18 March 2026 in an Israeli airstrike on his residential building in central Beirut amid a renewed escalation of hostilities and a growing pattern of attacks affecting media workers in Lebanon. Sherri was a prominent media figure known for shaping political coverage and programming at Al-Manar, where he played a central role in interpreting and presenting regional political developments. On the morning of 18 March 2026, an Israeli strike hit the residential building where Mohammad Sherri was living with his family in the Zuqaq al-Blat neighborhood of Beirut, completely destroying the structure and killing him and his wife, while several other family members, including his son who is also a journalist, were injured in the attack. International organisations including the Committee to Protect Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists condemned the killing, stressing that the targeting of a residential building housing a journalist raises serious concerns under international humanitarian law and may constitute a violation of the protections afforded to civilians and media workers. Mohammad Sherri’s killing also prompted condemnation from UNESCO, which highlighted his role as a senior journalist and reiterated the need to ensure the safety of journalists and combat impunity for such attacks.
