Talib Al-Saedi

Talib Al-Saedi is a well-known Omani human rights defender and online activist known for monitoring and documenting cases of detained activists in Oman. He has been involved in promoting freedom of expression, human rights, and political reform, using social media platforms to call for change and highlight abuses by the Internal Security Service (ISS).

Al-Saedi has faced repeated harassment and arbitrary detention due to his activism. On 13 July 2014, he was arrested and interrogated after calling for a peaceful march in solidarity with the Palestinian people. He was again detained on 23 March 2015 after being summoned by the ISS and released on 13 April 2015. On 03 August 2015, he, along with fellow human rights defenders Dr. Salih Al-Azri and Ali Al-Muqbali, were arbitrarily arrested for refusing to comply with a summons without an official warrant and were held incommunicado at the Special Division of the Omani Police General Command in Muscat. They were released 21 days later by the ISS  without directing any specific charges against them.

On 30 November 2025, Al-Saedi was summoned by the Special Branch, the ISS’s executive arm, in Sohar. He was arbitrarily arrested upon arrival. He was released on 10 December 2025, on bail of 200 Omani Rials. On 31 December 2025, the Sohar Court of First Instance sentenced Al-Saedi to three months in prison, a fine of 1,000 Omani Rials (of which he is required to pay only 200 rials), and the confiscation of his mobile phone. He was convicted of the misdemeanour of using the Internet to publish material that could harm public order, based on Article 19 of the Cybercrime Law. The court decided to consider the time he had already spent in pretrial detention sufficient, according to the verdict.
